The Charles Dickens Museum

Hello my Victorians!

Questo sarà l'ultimo post riguardo la mia estate a Londra, spero vi piaccia e spero vi siano piaciute anche le due entry precedenti :) allora cominciamo! Uno dei più grandi romanzieri dell'era vittoriana - come di sicuro sapete - fu Charles Dickens, penso che quasi ogni studente conosca almeno uno dei suoi romanzi: Oliver Twist, Grandi Speranze, David Copperfield, il Circolo Pickwick e così via... beh, ho studiato le sue opere a scuola e l'ho "incontrato" molte volte durante la mia esperienza universitaria e quest'anno posso aggiungere alla lista di aver visitato la sua casa XD Il Charles Dickens Museum è una casa-museo molto carina a Doughty Street, n°48 ed è davvero una delle case che Dickens ha avuto durante la sua vita. La stazione metro più vicina è Russel Square e una volta lì abbiamo avuto problemi per arrivare al museo perché ho seguito le indicazioni sbagliate XD In sostanza, siamo arrivati ad un'altra Dickens House, ma non era QUELLA Dickens House!!! Comunque, dopo molte risate, siamo arrivati al posto giusto finalmente!

This will be the last entry about my summer in London, I hope you'll like it and I hope you liked the previous two entries as well :) so let's begin! One of the greatest novelist of the Victorian era - as you surely know - was Charles Dickens, I guess that almost every student knows at least one of his novels: Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, David Copperfield, the Pickwick Papers and so on... well, I studied his works at school and I've "met" him many times during my academic experience and this year I can add to my list that I've visited his house XD The Charles Dickens Museum is a very nice house-museum in Doughty Street, n°48 and it's really one of the houses that Dickens had during his lifetime. The nearest underground station is Russell Square and once there, we had trouble getting to the Museum because I've followed the wrong directions XD Basically, we arrived at another Dickens House but, it wasn't THAT Dickens House!!!! Anyway, after a lot of laughing, we got to the right place at last!

La casa è suddivisa in più piani:
The House is divided into many floors:
-Piano interrato/Lower Ground
-Piano terra/Ground Floor
-Primo Piano/1st Floor
-Secondo Piano/2nd Floor
-Terzo Piano/3rd Floor

La cucina, la lavanderia e la cantina dei vini sono al piano interrato. La sala da pranzo é al piano terra, di sopra ci sono: il salotto e lo studio di Dickens al primo piano, le camere e il bagno al secondo piano e la camera della servitù al terzo piano.

The kitchen, the laundry and the wine cellar are downstairs. The dining room is on the ground floor, upstairs there are: the living room and Dickens' study on the first floor, chambers and bathroom on the second floor and the servants' room on the third floor.

La cosa più interessante è che, sebbene alcuni oggetti siano repliche, ci sono anche molte cose originali, specialmente gli appunti di Dickens e le prime edizioni delle sue opere!

The most interesting thing is that, even though some objects are replicas, there is also a lot of original stuff, especially Dickens' notes and 1st editions of his works!

La visita è stata molto piacevole ed è terminata con una piccola mostra! Comunque, se siete fan di Dickens o anche se non lo siete, vi consiglio questo Museo, anche perché potete visitare una vera casa vittoriana! Mi è davvero piaciuta, con le sue scale e le sue finestre *-*

The visit was very nice and ended with a little exhibition! Anyway, if you're a Dickens fan or even if you are not, I recommend this Museum, also because you can visit a real Victorian house! I really loved it, with its stairs and windows *-*

The Fan Museum

Bonsoir my dear Victorians!

Come state? :) Oggi sono un pò stanca e volevo scrivere un nuovo post perché lo trovo molto rilassante XD Comunque, ho deciso di scrivere riguardo al Fan Museum (Museo del Ventaglio), che ho visitato mentre passavamo la giornata a Greenwich! Non ero mai stata a Greenwich ma ora posso dire che è un posto davvero bello, è patrimonio dell'Unesco, il che significa che è protetto, specialmente perché è la sede del Primo Meridiano della Terra! Beh, il Fan Museum non ha niente a che fare con queste cose geografiche ma è davvero molto carino! Ci sono molti tipi diversi di ventagli, fatti di materiali differenti e di diverse forme! In più, mi è piaciuto molto il fatto che le signore dello staff erano molto amichevoli, ci hanno dato una guida specifica da seguire e alcune spiegazioni prima di cominciare la visita e alla fine abbiamo fatto una bella chiacchierata (ho detto loro che ero innamorata di tutto quello che è vittoriano e sono rimaste molto colpite XD ed erano felici che ci fosse piaciuta la visita). Ora vi mostro qualche foto! :)

How are you? :) Today I'm a bit tired and I wanted to write a new entry because is so relaxing XD Anyway, I've decided to write about The Fan Museum, that I visited while we were spending our day in Greenwich! I had never been to Greenwich but now I can say that is a really beautiful place, it's a Unesco landmark, that means that is protected, especially because the Prime Meridian of the Earth is there! Well, the Fan Museum has nothing to do with this geographic stuff, but it's very nice indeed! There are a lot of different kind of fans, made of several materials and in different shapes! Besides, I really liked the fact that the ladies of the staff were very friendly, they gave us a specific guide to follow and some explanations before starting the visit and, at the end of it, we had a nice chat ( I told them that I was in love with everything that is Victorian and they were quite impressed XD and they were glad that we enjoyed the visit). Now I'll show you some pics! :)

Alla fine abbiamo potuto visitare questa carinissima Orangerie che utilizzano per lezioni di ventaglio ed eventi!

Finally we could visit this gorgeous Orangery that they use for fan-lessons and events!

Museum of London

Hello my Victorians!

Dopo qualche post non molto vittoriano, è tempo di tornare in argomento! Oggi scriverò del Museum of London, che ho visitato quest'anno per la prima volta! Io e il mio ragazzo l'abbiamo visitato il giorno dopo gli Studios, quindi eravamo un pò stanchi e tristi XD comunque, il Museo non era molto affollato, penso che forse a molti turisti piace visitare solo i musei più famosi come la National Gallery e il British Museum! Ma non fate questo errore perché Londra ha sempre molto da offrire e da scoprire! :) Il Museo si trova nella zona di Barbican e segue la storia della città di Londra dall'inizio, ma per me le più belle gallerie sono state quelle che riguardavano il Medioevo e l'epoca vittoriana (certamente!)

After some not-so-Victorian entries, it's time to go back to the topic! Today I'll write about the Museum of London, that I visited this year for the first time! My boyfriend and I visited it the day after the Studios, so we were a bit tired and sad XD anyway, the Museum wasn't very crowded, I guess that maybe many tourists like to visit only the most famous Museums like the National Gallery and the British Museum! But don't make this mistake because London has always a lot to offer and discover! :) The Museum is in the Barbican area and follows the history of the city of London from the very beginning but, for me the most beautiful galleries were those concerning Middle Ages and the Victorian era (of course!)

Una cosa molto carina da fare è la "Victorian Walk" dove hanno ricreato diversi negozi dell'epoca, era tutto molto tranquillo e suggestivo!

A very nice thing to do it's the "Victorian Walk" where they have recreated different shops of that era, it was all very quiet and picturesque!

Dopo la camminata ero molto contenta perché abbiamo trovato la sezione riguardante i costumi e le opere teatrali e c'era il nostro caro Oscar :) nella foto potete vedere il manifesto de "L'importanza di chiamarsi Ernest"

After the walk I was very happy beacuse we found a section concerning costumes and theatre plays and our dear Oscar was there :) in the picture you can see the pamphlet of "The Importance of being Earnest"

Poi è seguita la galleria della città moderna e così via... ma alla fine dell'ultima galleria c'era questa stupenda carrozza! *-*

Then followed the Modern City gallery and so on... but at the end of the last gallery stood this beautiful carriage! *-*

The Making of Harry Potter - Warner Bros. Studio Tour

Hello my dear Victorians!
Sono tornata! Come forse già sapete, sono stata a Londra.. ancora una volta! Questa città è la mia seconda casa XD La amo e la amerò sempre! Ci siete mai stati? DOVETE assolutamente! Comunque, questa volta io e il mio ragazzo avevamo deciso di visitare i Warner Bros Studios, dal momento che siamo grandissimi fan di Harry Potter non potevamo perdere l'occasione di vedere dove succede la magia (per davvero!)! The Making of Harry Potter è assolutamente fantastico, è stato uno dei giorni più belli della mia vita, davvero! Prima di partire per Londra dovevamo prenotare in anticipo i biglietti e all'inizio eravamo molto delusi perché tutti i posti del tour erano esauriti! Ma, il giorno dopo, il tour per il 3 Agosto era tornato disponibile e così ce l'abbiamo fatta e abbiamo prenotato!! Credo sia stata una specie di magia (ancora!)... Siamo arrivati a Londra il 2 Agosto a tarda sera e il giorno dopo abbiamo fatto colazione molto presto perché dovevamo prendere la metro e poi un treno, e poi il bus navetta XD Tutto è andato bene e siamo arrivati agli Studios con più di un'ora di anticipo prima del nostro tour! Così abbiamo potuto visitare il negozio... e abbiamo detto "addio" ai nostri soldi!!!

I'm back! As you may already know, I've been in London.. once again! This city is my second home XD I love it and I always will! Have you ever been there? You HAVE TO! Anyway, this time my boyfriend and I planned to visit the Warner Bros Studios, since we are huge fans of Harry Potter we couldn't miss the chance of seeing where the magic (for real!) happens! The Making of Harry Potter is absolutely amazing, it was one of the best days in my life, seriously! Before leaving for London we had to pre-book our tickets and at first we were very disappointed because all tour slots were full! But, the next day, the tour slot for August 3 was available again so we succeded and booked!! I believe it was some sort of magic (again!)... We arrived in London on August 2, late at night and the next day we had breakfast very early because we had to take the underground and then a train, and then the shuttle-bus XD All went well and we arrived at the Studios more than one hour before our tour! So we could visit the Shop... and we said "goodbye" to our money!!!

Alle 11.30 cominciava il nostro tour, dopo una lunga fila, ero molto emozionata e anche il mio ragazzo lo era, eravamo come dei bambini con quasi le lacrime agli occhi XD Comunque, dopo l'introduzione delle guida ci siamo seduti in una grande sala cinematografica ed è cominciato un breve filmato con gli attori e i produttori dei film di Harry Potter, quando il filmato è finito, lo schermo è salito verso l'alto e la porta di Hogwarts era proprio lì davanti a noi! *-*

At 11.30 our tour started, after a long queue, I was very excited and my boyfriend too, we were like children with almost tears in our eyes XD Anyway, after an introduction by the guide we sit in a big cinema hall and a short video started, featuring the actors and producers of the Harry Potter movies, when the video ended the screen went up and the Hogwarts door stood right in front of us! *-*

Il tour è stato assolutamente FANTASTICO! Lascerò che siano le foto a parlare al mio posto!
The tour was absolutely AMAZING! I'll let the pics speak in my stead!

Continuo a dire che è stato tutto fantastico! Andateci se potete perché ne vale davvero la pena! :)
